The City of Monrovia conducts general municipal elections in April of odd-numbered years to elect members to serve on the City Council. There are five members of the Monrovia City Council, including the directly elected Mayor who serves a two-year term, and four Councilmembers serving a four-year term of office.
Next Election: The City of Monrovia will conduct an election on April 9, 2013 for the positions of Mayor (vote for 1), City Councilmembers (vote for 2), City Clerk (vote for 1) and City Treasurer (vote for 2). Voter registration forms may be obtained from the Monrovia City Clerk’s office or from the Office of the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. For voter registration information, please contact Los Angeles County at http://www.lavote.net/
NOMINATION PROCESS
To be a candidate for City Council, you must be registered to vote in the incorporated area of the City of Monrovia at the time nomination papers are issued.
Nomination papers require that the candidate obtain not less than 20 nor more than 30 signatures from eligible registered Monrovia voters who reside in the City.
The filing period to be a candidate for the April 9, 2013, election began on Monday, December 17, 2012, and ran through Friday, January 11, 2013. Pursuant to California Elections Code, due to an incumbent not filing, the period was extended to Wednesday, January 16, for that seat only.

WRITE-IN CANDIDATES
The filing period to be a write-in candidate for the April 9, 2013, election began on Monday, February 11, 2013, and ran through Tuesday, March 26, 2013. For information on pulling nomination papers, please call the City Clerk's Office at (626) 932-5505.
Write-in candidates must qualify through the same nomination process stated above.

VOTE BY MAIL INFORMATION
Applications to request Vote by Mail ballot will be sent to each registered voter in City of Monrovia with the Voter Information Pamphlet (sample ballot) beginning the week of March 11, 2013. Applications may also be obtained from the City Clerk’s Office.
Residents who are registerered as Permanent Vote by Mail voters can also expect to receive their Vote by Mail ballots the week of March 11, 2013.
